Variações Goldberg Pedro Burmester
This concert is part of the Goldberg Burmester Cycle initiated in 2024 by Artway following the release of the album featuring Bach’s work.
As part of the Sexta Maior cycle, Pedro Burmester presents his renewed interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations live, a reading “in pure intuition,” as Valter Hugo Mãe wrote. Decades after his first recording, Burmester returns to this work with the freedom of a master and the maturity of one who inhabits it from within. Each variation gains its own identity, in an emotional journey that oscillates between luminous restraint and the most lacerating interiority. Variation XXV, for example, is, in the words of Valter Hugo Mãe, “more deathlike and evokes the most brilliant interiority.” In this recital, we will hear the alchemy between rigor and surrender, technique and emotion — “the encounter of perfect beings: Bach and Burmester.” A rare moment where music transforms into living matter, and listening approaches the sacred.
As part of this recital, the conference Variations on the Variation by Paulo Ferreira de Castro will take place in the Lopes-Graça Room, also on January 30th, at 6:30 PM.
