Sofia Lourenço


Pianist, born in Porto, where she completed graduate studies (Conservatório de Música do Porto, Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto). Disciple of the pianist Helena Sá e Costa since 10 years old, Sofia Lourenço was also orientated by several pianists of reference (Sequeira Costa, V. Margulis, A. Larrocha, G. Sebok, C. Cebro, G. Sava, L. Simon). She obtained a Diploma in Piano Soloist (Abschlussprüfung Klavier) at the Universität der Künste Berlin, Germany, a scholarship attributed by the Music Department of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

She teaches Piano (Assistant Professor) in the Escola de Música e das Artes do Espetáculo do Porto since 1991. Sofia had completed the degree of Doctor of Music and Musicology at the University of Évora in 2005, under the guidance of Professors Rui Vieira Nery and Ulrich Mahlert. Since 2007 she is member of the Center for Research in Science and Arts Technology – CITAR - (Coordination Musical Studies), at the School of Arts of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she is currently undertaking his post-doc.

Keeps concert activity, solo and with orchestra in Portugal and abroad. She dedicate her interests to the dissemination of Portuguese music, having recorded three solo CDs for Numérica label, in 2008, "Porto Romântico: Mazurkas & Romanzes." Also in 2008 she recorded the CD "DUAL" (dedicated to the composer Álvaro Salazar). Sofia incorporated the "Oficina Musical" group wich is focused on the study and dissemination of the 20th and 21st centuries music. She featured at the Black & White Disklavier Festival in 2012 with the Duo pour une Pianiste (9 Sketches for One Pianist) written by the French composer Jean-Claude Risset, including a world premiere dedicated to her (Reflections).
