Iva Barbosa was born in Matosinhos. She began her musical studies with her father and continued studies at the Conservatory of Music of Porto and at the Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espetáculo do Porto at the classes of Professors Adam Wierzba and Antonio Saiote, respectively .

One of Portugal most prominent clarinetists of her generation, Iva Barbosa holds the most important national awards, as well as several international ones.

She was awarded in more than a dozen contests, among which are: 1st prize at the XII Interpretation Competition of Estoril /Prize El Corte Ingles, 1st Prize at the Young Musicians/ RDP, 1st prize at the 1st International Competition for Clarinet at Porto; 1st prize in the Young's Revelation Rotay International; 2nd prize at the International "Young Artist Competition", Utah, USA, 2nd prize at the "Villa de Montroy" International Contest, Valencia, Spain; prize Maestro Silva Pereira; Semifinalist in the "Prague Spring" International Competition.

Iva Barbosa has participated in Master Classes with teachers such as Anthony Kilt Guy Deplus, Arrignon Michel, Philippe Cuper, Enrique Perez Piquer, Stephane Hascoët, Alain Damiens, Philippe Berrod, José Luís Estellés and Larry Combs.

She performed as a soloist with several orchestras, including the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Académica do Porto, Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra , Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Professional School of Music of Viana do Castelo .

Iva has performed solo, orchestral and chamber music throughout the country as well as in Italy, Belgium, Spain, Japan, China and Canada. She works regularly as a guest musician with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música and the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra .

Jury was invited on: Young Musicians Contest – RDP; Luso-Spanish Contest of Fafe; Alto Minho Winds Contest .

Currently teaches at the Escola Profissional Metropolitana.

She is a founding member of the Quarteto Vintage and of the OUTRARTE Association.
